I decided to alternate chocolate cake layers with a vanilla layer, and used a chocolate pudding filling.
While the tool helped to make a very even-looking cake, and the three layers looked really cool when sliced... I have to say the pudding was a little goopy inside, and left the remaining cake and slice a teeny sloppy looking.
perhaps a thicker filling or using a hot knife to make the slice? or having the cake be cold at the time of cutting? maybe it's something that can't be helped... or I just need to learn to cut a slice better. not really sure.. but it's something I certainly don't mind investigating a little further.

i still think u done a great job!
NICE! mama! Perhaps having the cake chilled would work? firming it up a bit? Beautiful work and fun to use a new tool!!
What kind of tool? Did you like it? We like to make layered cakes, but usually just end up usually a bunch of frosting to "even up" the layers so that they sit nice. I'm assuming you cut the cakes to make them flat so they'd lay properly, right?
Thanks, Ladies!
Cathy... this is what I have: http://www.wilton.com/store/site/product.cfm?id=3E30D67E-475A-BAC0-5792C543763E855E
very easy to use, and the tension wire adjusts to different heights. they have larger ones as well... you can find them in Michael's, walmart... any major Wilton brand carrier.
You're hired for my future children's birthdays. Imagine how good you'll be at cake decorating by the time that happens :P
